As a committee we have been working round the clock in the background to try and get the best plan of action together.
Due to the current Covid situation, we have been forced to make some very difficult decisions regarding the Leicester & District Pool League, and how best to move things forward so that we can get back to playing with some sort of normality within the current guidelines. Whilst we are currently in the process of completing the Individual and Team Knockout Cup and Plate competitions, regrettably I have to inform you that this years Super Cup competition has fallen victim to Covid, and won’t be taking place – our sincere apologies go out to those teams that qualified through their final league position at the end of last season.
We have also taken a similar decision regarding play-offs, that because we can’t run a full and complete Winter League season, play-offs for promotion/relegation won’t be taking place this time around, and a further decision will be made next summer before, hopefully, getting back to full normality for Winter 2021/2022.
Now for our proposal to get back to playing some sort of league matches. It is our plan, Covid restrictions allowing, to have a shortened Winter League up and running towards the end of October/early November. The league will be based around the format usually taken for our Summer Leagues. There will be no Premier League, with all teams going into regional Groups. Groups will be picked at random within that region. There will be no top or bottom group in any region, so promotion or relegation will not apply (hence the reason for no playoffs being required).
We anticipate that we can still run the Team Knockout Cup and Plate competitions, but individual competitions are at the moment still under discussion.
The dates mentioned above are a target date, and a further message will be sent out when ONLINE ONLY sign up is open, along with confirmation of an actual start date for the league. It’s great for us on the committee to be able to start welcoming you back, but we kindly ask teams / captains to check with your venue regarding their own Covid restrictions and procedures before entering your team for the new league. If your venue is not accepting teams at the moment, please let one of the senior committee know ASAP - either Sunny or Stew. Setting up the league takes a lot of time and effort, so the more clarity we have regarding venue availability, the quicker we can get things moving for you.
Once again, thank you for your patience whilst we’ve been dealing with this enforced and unprecedented situation.
